It’s that time of year again… the weddings are slower in the winter but the engagements go through the roof & everyone cracks on with planning their beautiful weddings! I include an engagement or ‘pre-wedding’ photoshoot in my wedding photography package for a few reasons…
Firstly it gives us a great chance to get to know each other better! You will spend quite a lot of time with me on your wedding day so it’s important for you to feel comfortable & relaxed working with me. You will get a chance to see how I work and this will make sure you are feeling happy & confident to pose for me on your wedding day.

It’s also a great way to practise posing with your partner – chances are you’ve never had professional photos taken together and the idea of being romantic or cuddling up in front of a camera may sound daunting at first! I promise by the end of the session you will have had fun, feel relaxed and come away looking forward to your couple portraits on your wedding day! Don’t be afraid to show personality and just have fun!

So when planning these sessions what are the most important things?
I want to reflect who you really are as a couple – got any amazing hobbies? The cutest pet ever? I want to know about it! The more personal the session can be – the better! I love going the extra mile – so if you want to jump in a river, bring a full picnic or spray champagne – I’m always up for it! Also if going to the pub and a walk in the countryside at sunset is more your vibe then that’s absolutely perfect to!

Location is also key – I often ask ‘do you have anywhere special to you that you would like to shoot?’ as a great starting point! That may just be ‘we are happiest around water’… well great! I can suggest loads of brilliant places! If you don’t have anywhere that springs to mind that’s no problem. Just let me know if you prefer city or countryside vibes and I’ll send you suggestions! Your Wedding venue may also let us shoot there with kind permission so it’s always worth an ask!

What to wear? What to wear!?
This is so important it get’s it’s own heading! I want you to look like you but on your best day! So if that’s a killer white jumpsuit and heels – then perfect! If it’s more jeans and a jumper with your wellies – that’s perfect too! We want the outfit to suit the surroundings (as you can see below these two nailed it with pastel colours to match the pastel houses in Notting Hill!). In terms of ‘matching’ your partner – I always say ‘match without matching’. So you need to look like you are going to the same party! The same level of ‘dressiness’ and the same tones in the colours. I’ve made a Pinterest board with loads of ideas and inspiration to help you too!

When should we book in?
These sessions can be taken midweek any time of the year except July & August! They are almost always taken at golden hour so often starting at 7 or 8pm in the summer! It’s always best to get booked in as soon as you can if you would like a spring or summer session.
If you have any questions for me please feel free to drop me an email – I love to help in any way I can!
If you are not a wedding client I do take on a very small number of Engagement only sessions per year. You can find more details on pricing on my website here.
