A little about me…

Well this post is more than a little over due! I really should introduce myself… Hi! I’m Poppy! I’ve had a camera in my hand since I was 14 and regularly need to pinch myself now that I have my dream business photographing beautiful weddings & wonderful families across Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire and London!

Personal life…

I’m Mum to one nearly 7 year old, Isla! She’s an absolute joy & features regularly on my Instagram stories! We share a love for singing and our puppy, Sully! My husband, Barney, is a musician – we actually met at a theatre in London and had our first date seeing a friend in a show.

These are a few of my favourite things…

I posted on my Instagram stories for some help writing this blog and these were the questions that were asked!

What is one Food and Drink that you couldn’t live without? Sushi and frozen margaritas! My favourite restaurant is Sticks & Sushi in Covent Garden.

Best TV show of all time? Schitts Creek! If you follow me on Instagram this one will come as no surprise. I can regularly be seen sipping out of my ‘Ew David’ coffee mug. Plus I need almost no encouragement to use a Schitts Creek GIF and will quite literally crowbar it into any scenario.

What is your favourite type of music? I listen to a huge range of music from belting out Ariana Grande in the car on the way to weddings all the way to Diana Krall’s Live in Paris album and everything in between. I also have a huge love for musical theatre – especially everything Sondheim!

How do you spend your days off? I’m not great at taking time off but when I do force myself we usually spend the day playing table tennis & eating a roast at Soho Farmhouse. It’s where we got married so it’s our favourite place to be.

Favourite place you’ve travelled? Most recently my family went to Jamaica and had the most incredible time. The people, food, fun & energy was just infectious! I can’t recommend it enough for a honeymoon or family holiday if your kids are adventurous like my Isla!

What’s your favourite wedding venue? What a question – how could I possibly choose one? Kew Gardens will always have my heart but of course Euridge Manor is a total dream too! Other favourites are Micklefield Hall – for the people & incredible gardens! And I always love shooting at Hedsor House!

How did you get started in photography? I had my first DSLR at the age of 14 and started photographing all of my friends – I was heavily into theatre so had lots of wonderfully confident friends happy to pose! After I went to drama school at 18 I started taking headshots for friends and photographing shows. Fast forward a few years and I transitioned to weddings just for friends and later when my sister-in-law had her first son, Jack – I started shooting family photography! I never trained formally but never stop learning – I still regularly take courses or put together styled editorials to try new ideas! When my daughter was little my business really took off and I haven’t looked back since – the business continues to grow and adapt!

Describe your photography style? Naturally beautiful – effortlessly romantic. I hope my images are warm and full of emotion. I am always looking to capture naturally beautiful connections that mean the world to my clients. I want you to love your images now and truly cherish them in years to come. I treat all of my clients like lifelong friends and many of them become just that.

What camera do you shoot on? & your favourite lens? I shoot with two Sony A9’s and Sony Zeiss prime lenses! My favourites are my 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8.

How many clients do you take every year? For weddings I try to keep to 25-30 a year (Covid made that incredibly difficult as we had some serious catching up to do but from 2023 thing’s will be back to normal!). I like to give each of my clients the best customer service I possibly can and that is only possible by limiting my numbers. For family clients I shoot 2-4 families a week plus a few times a year I shoot themed mini sessions for around 100 families!

What are you looking forward to this year? This year has been one of the best of my career and after such a difficult time surviving covid lockdowns & my business being closed – every single wedding & celebration has felt all the sweeter! I’m looking forward to opening my dream studio space at the end of the best wedding season and feel endlessly grateful! 2023 is very close to fully booked with dream clients – so I’m enjoying every single moment and looking forward to every bit of it!

I think that’s enough for now! If you are looking for a photographer that loves her job more than is healthy then feel free to reach out via the contact page on my website! I’d love to hear from you!
